Who are your top five Broadway stars? What do you do when you hear the phrase, “jazz hands”? Where did you put your old tap shoes? When was the last time you thought you’d like to OWN a pair of tap shoes? Why is the shower the only place you belt out a show tune?

Let’s find out! (I’ll bring extra tap shoes!)

For a quick dive into the Broadway musical, let’s put on a show! We have an hour and a half to sing, dance and act our way into a short presentation of a mini musical!

You never know….this could be the next HIT on OFF OFF Broadway, aka SSI~

Drop-in to this FREE, all ages workshop, or pre-register (with your shoe size) and pick up the short script at the ArtSpring Box Office, beginning Monday, April 15th.

(Workshop is aimed towards 20 people but, if room, will accommodate more!)

Early in her childhood, Sue Newman was singing and dancing with her siblings in abbreviated Broadway shows on small stages, accompanied by her mother at the piano! And so, she was “hooked” as they say! Sue has worked in productions with Theatre Under the Stars, Gateway Theatre, Western Canada Theatre Company, the Firehall Theatre, Vancouver Opera among others. On Island, she produces a semi annual original musical, Christmas with Scrooge, that her parents wrote when the family first moved to Salt Spring, in 1970. She’s performed with Exit Stage Left Productions, Active P.A.S.S., Tickle Trunk Productions and the defunct but prolific, Off Centre Stage and Turnagain Dance Collective. Favourite roles include The Witch in Into the Woods, The Diva in Spamalot, The Gypsy Queen in The Who’s Tommy, Venus in Love Scallop and Marilyn Monroe in The Wonderful Naked Man. She has sung in cabarets, concerts and pubs, in rock and blues bands as well as with her jazz group. She also choreographs and directs. Sue has taught musical theatre, along with ballet, jazz and tap, for over 50 years and takes delight in singing, dancing and acting with anyone who wants to join in!

Since the idea was hatched, she has performed in fundraisers for this home for island artists. Sue is thrilled and proud to be part of ArtSpring's 25th Anniversary!
