Event Notes
The recent election in Alberta saw the United Conservative Party returned with majority. Premier Danielle Smith is moving the province further to the right, while seeking much greater autonomy within Confederation. Professor Lisa Young, a distinguished political scientist and prolific public commentator, is the best person in Canada to help us understand these developments.
Lisa Young is Professor of Political Science at the University of Calgary. Dr. Young has published extensively in the field of Canadian politics, authoring/co-authoring several books, including Rebuilding Canadian Party Politics, Feminists and Party Politics, and Advocacy Groups. Her current research projects focus on Alberta politics, political and party finance, and graduate education in the social sciences and humanities.
She appears frequently in the media commenting on Alberta and Canadian politics. From 2011 to 2018, she served as Vice-Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of Calgary.
