The Dancers of Damelahamid is an Indigenous dance company from the Northwest Coast of Canada. The company is founded on over five decades of extensive work of song restoration and dance revitalization. The current direction of the Dancers of Damelahamid is to redefine and characterize their practice so that the dances may continue to be tangible and accessible for the next generation. Flicker combines west coast graphic design with projected environments, live-action shadow-dance, and vibrant dance regalia in a story about a young man who discovers his potential in a mystical realm portrayed through coastal masked dance. Performance is 70 minutes with no intermission, latecomers will not be seated.

Generously sponsored by Joan Farlinger, Salt Spring Coffee, and Made in BC Dance on Tour.

Post-show Talkback Theatregoers are invited to stay for a post-show talkback, lead by ArtSpring’s Dance Outreach Coordinator Anna Haltrecht, with Margaret Grenier, and company dancers. The discussion will include Flicker and the work’s intention as a powerful healing space for indigenous people and all Canadians to advance the ongoing process of reconciliation.
